The fallout from Britney Spears and Sam Asghari’s divorce announcement continued over the weekend with missives from each. As two people who cover the elder-to-young-millennial divide, they’ve both chosen Instagram, the likeliest medium, for posting through the dissolution of their marriage. Ultimately, their public-facing takes are similar: They are sad it’s over and are trying their best. Also, the paparazzi are relentless.
“As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together … 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business !!! But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly !!!” Spears captioned a video of herself dancing on Instagram on Saturday. “In some sort of telepathic way I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you !!!”
The post continued, “I’ve been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it’s far from reality and I think we all know that !!! I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but [for] some reason I’ve always had to hide my weaknesses !!! If I wasn’t my dad’s strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors !!! But that’s when I needed family the most !!! You’re supposed to be loved unconditionally … not under conditions !!!! So I will be as strong as I can and do my best !!! And I’m actually doing pretty damn good !!! Anyways have a good day and don’t forget to smile !!!”
Earlier in the week, Asghari wrote in an Instagram Story, “Shit happens.”
The couple started dating in 2017, and Asghari vocally supported Spears through the end of her conservatorship, which she was officially released from in November 2021. He proposed in September 2021, and they were married last June in a small backyard ceremony on Spears’s Thousand Oaks property. TMZ reported at the time that a prenup was in place that protected Spears’s assets prior to their wedding day.
The posting continued on either side through the weekend, as both are contending with renewed paparazzi interest. Spears is rightfully suspicious that someone leaked her whereabouts in Malibu Canyon and she was followed.
“When you go to meet up with a so called ‘friend’ and drive an hour for chicken !!!” Spears wrote. “Then you have to wait in the car and need to use the bathroom ... I knew paps were tipped off because the car I was in was never used before … so how was I followed ???”
The rest of her Instagrams were of her “playing” with her “fav boys.”
For his part, Asghari also played, though he played dress-up. Donning various wigs, he asked his followers to give him feedback on the best ones for deterring paparazzi.
